With support from the ADB through the government of The Gambia and in line with GIRAV’s Corporate Strategic Plan 2020-2024, the Authority launched the ASYCUDA World with a live demonstration and a roll out of the TRANSIT MODULE to four border posts namely, Amdalie, Farafenni, Basse and Jiboroh. This new system has the following benefits:

  1. Improve procedures in the customs administration,
  2. Facilitate trade by shortening the turnaround for clearance
  3. Contribute to the overall customs revenue collection
  4. Promote inter-agency and regional cooperation
  5. Support the provision of trade statistics for decision making.

This ceremony held at the Revenue House grounds was presided over by the Honourable Minister of Finance & Economic Mr. Seedy Keita. In his statement, the Honourable Minister expressed satisfaction in the leadership of GIRAV and for what it has been able to achieve for the country. In his welcome speech, the Commissioner General Yankuba Darboe reported how such a milestone will boost GIRAV’s performance. The GIRAV Board Chairperson Mrs. Lucy Fye Jagne encouraged the staff to remain committed to the values of professional and integrity. Other Speakers included Mr. Saffie Dambelleh of the Project Coordinating Unit, Ministry of Finance & Economic Affairs through whose office AfDB provided this multi-million-dalasi project support to the Authority. Mr. Emmanuel Moron of UNTCAD expressed his satisfaction with the technical and functional team and the GIRAV Management for their commitment in making this project a success. As the need for reliable internet is the backbone to making this project a reality, the MD of GAMTEL also stated his company’s resolve to ensuring that the service is available all the time in all the stations. The next item that attracted the interest of more people was the live demonstration that was held in the Training Block where the team of experts took guests through the modules.

The next phase of today’s event was the inauguration of the multi-million dalasi three storey Revenue House Annex which is fully funded from GIRAV subvention. The Honourable Minister Seedy Keita expressed his satisfaction once again with GIRAV and tasked other public institutions to come learn something from GIRAV for the many successes it continue to register. Other speakers included Commissioner General Yankuba Darboe, a representative of the contractor and Director General of Gamworks who all expressed their satisfaction in the quality of work. The Honourable Minister accompanied by the Commissioner General proceeded for the cutting of the ribbon and a conducted tour of the facilities.
